Amazing Amalfi: Top 10 Things To Do In Positano
The beautiful black sand (okay, pebble) beaches of Positano are a must for any traveler visiting the Amalfi Coast. After a year living in Italy, I can honestly say that Positano is not only one of my favorite beach towns, but one of my favorite Italian destinations. Spend a day (or two!) exploring the colorful buildings tucked into the cliffside, soaking up the sun, and splashing around in the Mediterranean, and more! Here are my top 10 favorite things to do in Positano!
1. Kick back, relax, and rent a beach chair!
I initially thought that renting a beach chair was a bit excessive, however, you’ll thank yourself for this mini splurge! For around 10 Euro you’ll be able to relax, and save your feet from rather hot black pebbles that have spent the day baking in the sun. Along with renting a chair, you’ll be able to use the changing rooms and bathrooms of the adjoining restaurant, as well as have drinks delivered to you-its a win-win-win.
2. Shop ’til you drop
Positano is filled with a plethora of shops. From tee shirt stands selling the usual touristy fare to unique boutiques, you are sure to find a souvenir or two to take home. One of my favorite things to purchase in Positano are the white Antica Sartoria beach cover ups-they won’t be hard to find, as there are three locations in Positano alone!
All of my friends know I am obsessed with these cover ups, it seems like each time I visit I come back with another!
3. Try local seafood
Treat yourself to some local seafood! You are right on the Amalfi Coast, so you can be sure that your meal will be extra fresh and extra delicious. There are several wonderful restaurants right on the beach, as well as others further up the hill with incredible views. The prices might not be great, but the views and food are worth it!
4.Grab a beach snack at Vini & Panini
Traveling on a budget? Have no fear! The affordable Vini&Panini shop located near the beach has panini, beer, wine, snacks, and other foods perfect for taking with you to the beach. Save money and time by taking your food straight to the sand!
5. Rent a boat or paddleboard
Hop in the beautiful blue waters of the Mediterranean with a rented paddleboard or boat! I had a blast cliff jumping from a nearby rocky area. A great way to cool down and have some adventure.
6. Step inside the beautiful Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta
Positano is famous for the tiled dome of the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta. If you have a chance, poke your head inside and admire the church’s interior. If you are lucky, you may even catch a newlywed couple outside the church, as it is a popular location for weddings!
7. Purchase custom made sandals
Italy is famous for its leather and Positano is no exception! Here, you can have a pair of leather sandals custom designed to fit you perfectly right in front of you as you wait. A truly unique (and stylish) souvenir.
8. Admire the art galleries
Positano has several art galleries that are worth popping into. My personal favorite has a rooftop gallery with a gorgeous view of the ocean. The best part is, looking is free!
9. Sip some Prosecco overlooking Positano
After a long day of hitting the beach, a glass of prosecco is just what the doctor ordered! If you are willing to trek up the town’s main road (its quite steep) there are some beautiful views to be had! Order a cocktail and enjoy! If you are staying for sunset, this is the perfect place to watch the sun go down and city lights begin to twinkle.
10. Enjoy the view!
Positano is one of the most picturesque towns I have ever seen. The incredibly blue water sets off the colorful town brilliantly. Take a few minutes to find the best viewpoint in town, and simply admire the view.
Hope you enjoyed my favorite tips for a great day in Positano! Are you wishing you were at the beach yet? I know I am!
