The Ultimate Itinerary For A Girls’ Weekend Getaway In Florence

If you are searching for an incredible girls’ weekend getaway location, look no further than Florence, Italy. This city straight out of the Renaissance has the perfect combination of history, culture, and cute cafes to make your girls’ weekend unforgettable. I spent 1 year living in Florence, and have compiled my favorite things to do with my girlfriends in Florence here! So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and head to Firenze!

Day 1: Friday aka Fri-Yay

Start your day off right at La Menagere

La Menagere is one of the cutest coffee shops in Florence and is one of my favorite places to grab breakfast before a busy day around the city. Their coffee is amazing and they also have yummy breakfast items beyond your typical croissant. They even have a hame goods store and flower shop filled with beautiful blooms!

Hit the famous Florence leather markets

If there is one product Florence is famous for (besides wine!), its leather! Just a short walk from La Menagere lies Mercato Centrale and the San Lorenzo leather market. This area is filled with stalls where you can find tons of leather goods. Be sure to bring your bargaining skills with you to negotiate a better price for the leather jacket or bag that is sure to be calling your name.

Be a tourist and climb the Duomo

The Duomo is one of Florence’s most iconic landmarks and is not to be missed. While the church is beautiful to behold from the ground, climbing the bell tower or cupola is an excellent way to see the city from above. The ticket to climb the Duomo includes entry to the nearby museum where visitors can learn more about the history of the museum’s construction. Get tips for visiting here!

Grab a panino at Pino’s

Salumeria Verdi, also known as Pino’s is my absolute favorite panini shop in all of Florence. It is a family owned an operated affair, so you will probably get a panini made by Pino himself. Please say hi for me! The panini are amazing and will help you re-fuel after climbing all of the steps of the Duomo! Pino also offers private wine tastings which are so fun! When you stop in ask if he has any availability!

Treat yo’ self to Gelateria Dei Neri

Gelateria dei Neri is one of the best gelaterias in Florence. Fortunately for your feet, it also happens to be on the way to your next stop on the itinerary! I highly recommend trying the Carmel dei Neri flavor-it is out of this world! If you only get gelato once in Florence, make sure you get some at Gelateria dei Neri!

Get cultured at the Uffizi Gallery

The Uffizi is one of Florence’s most famous museums and features works by artists such as Boticelli, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Raphael. It houses one of the best collections of Italian Renaissance art in the world, and the building itself is incredible. A must-see for art lovers!

Wind Down At Soul Kitchen Aperitivo

After a busy day of sightseeing you are sure to be hungry-and in need of a cocktail. Get both at aperitivo. During aperitivo, restaurant and bar goers pay around €7-€15 for a drink, and a buffet is included. I love the atmosphere, food, and cocktails offered at Soul Kitchen, and highly recommend stopping in for a drink and a light dinner.

Day 2: Saturday

Brunch at Le Vespe

My absolute favorite trendy brunch place in Florence is Le Vespe. This cute cafe is quite popular on the weekends, so be prepared for a little wait! They have amazing french toast, breakfast burritos, smoothies, and more! A perfect way to fuel up for the next adventure of the day…

Cruise through Chianti on a Vespa Tour

One of the most fun things you can do in Florence is take a Vespa tour through Chianti. Chianti is the area just outside Florence where delicious Chianti wine comes from. I loved the vespa tour so much that I’ve been three times-with girlfriends, boyfriends, and my parents. For the most girly Vespas and the best tour in town, I recommend checking out Tuscany Cycle-they have pink Vespas perfect for Instagram, and their tour includes lunch at a historic 11th century castle and wine tasting. It really is the perfect way to spend an afternoon, and you can read all about the experience here!

Perk up at Ditta Artigianale

If the vino after the Vespa tour made you a little sleepy, you’ll want to perk up with a delicious cappuccino from Ditta Artigianale. The cafe has a cool, hip atmosphere, and the coffee is some of the best I’ve had.

Explore Florence More

Once you are back in Florence, there is plenty to do. Explore the high end shopping around the Piazza della Repubblica, visit a smaller museum such as the Bargello, enjoy the free open air museum near the Palazzo Vecchio. Take some time to just wander and enjoy the city.

Hit a Rooftop Bar

I don’t know about you, but my girlfriends and I are obsessed with rooftop bars! Fortunately for us, there are several in Florence that are worth visiting. My personal favorite is the bar at the Westin Excelsior. The view is simply amazing, and its the perfect place to catch a sun set. Drinks and aperitivo there are a bit more pricy at €20 per person, but there are other great rooftop bars in Florence to choose from as well! Day 3: Sunday

Get the most Instagram-able cappuccino in Florence at News Cafe

Do you love coffee? Do you love latte art? If you answered yes to both these questions then start your day off at News Cafe-the baristas include latte art on every cappuccino! I got the Duomo drawn in my foam the first time I visited, but each time you visit is a surprise! This cafe definitely make it on my list of must visit cafes in Florence.

Check out David at the Accademia

Be sure to go check out the most handsome man in Florence-Michelangelo’s David! You can find this amazing masterpiece in the Accademia museum, along with some of Michelangelo’s breathtaking unfinished sculptures.

See the Ponte Vecchio

The Ponte Vecchio, or old bridge is another one of Florence’s famous sites that you simply can’t miss while visiting. I recommend heading over to the Ponte Santa Trìnita for the best view of the bridge. There you’ll also fund the delicious Gelateria Santa Trìnita, in case you’d like snack while you take in the view.

Explore Piazza Santo Spirito and Oltrarno

After you cross the Arno river, you are on the other side of Florence, or “Oltrarno.” This area is a lot less touristy than the rest of Florence and is a lovely place to stroll around. Stop for pizza at the famous Gusta pizzeria, or take a peek inside the church.

Watch the sun set over Florence from Piazzale Michelangelo

End your girl’s weekend the right way-with a bottle of wine watching the sun set from the steps of the Piazzale Michelangelo. This famous piazza has some of the best views in Florence, and offers a stunning view of the city and the Ponte Vecchio.

Dine at a delicious restaurant

Make your last meal in Florence one you’ll remember by heading to one of the best restaurants in town. My personal favorites? La Giostra, Aqua al 2, and Osteria Santo Spirito. Read more about Florence’s best places to eat in my post about the 30 best places to eat and drink in Florence.

    Hi Catalina!
Amazing tips, thank you very much for the great advice! I’ll be leaving to Florence on mid September for a year abroad, and I was super anxious about visiting the typical spots on the city. Apart from the museums and touristy things, I also want to enjoy Florence as a local so, I’ll note down your tips and visit some of the places you told here!

    Best,
    Amanda
