6 Cafes in Florence Guaranteed to Satisfy Your Addiction to Coffee

If you weren’t addicted to coffee already, a quick visit (or living in) Florence will turn you into a coffee addict. Coffee in Italy is a ritual, and cafes can be found everywhere. Here are some of my favorite spots to get my caffeine fix!

1.La Ménagérie €€

Originally opened in 1896 as a shop for housewares, La Ménagére was completely renovated and transformed into a sleek, modern cafe and bistro. Modern lines and design, unfinished concrete, and tabletop wildflowers in jars create a contemporary space in the middle of historic Florence. La Ménagére is the perfect (and incredibly trendy) place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee, lunch or snack. The coffee is fantastic, food divine, and atmosphere welcoming.

2. News Cafe €

Located near Piazza Madonna, News Cafe is a neatly tucked away corner cafe, easy to miss if you don’t know where it is. Despite its less-than-obvious appearance, this cafe has one of the most iconic cappuccinos in Florence. In front of your eyes, a barista will whip up a delicious (and caffeinated) replica of the Duomo, which (if you are living in Florence) you are sure to see pop up on your Instagram feed. This cappuccino tastes as delicious as it appears-I promise!

3. La Milkeria €

One of my favorite cafes in Firenze, La Milkeria offers fantastic (and 100% biological) coffee, crepes, waffles, gelato, and more in a comfortable and cute environment. The cafe’s design is a modern adaptation of French country style, and its my go-to spot for a rainy day hot chocolate pick me up. Its sweet charm and sweeter desserts will keep you coming back.

Cappuccino+ Waffle + Nutella + Fruit? I think yes!

4. Gilli €€€

If you are willing to spend a bit more (think 3 times the price of an espresso at most cafes) Gilli is a must try. Opened in 1733 (yes, thats right, this cafe is older than the United States Constitution) Gilli is a legendary Florentine cafe. Located in the Piazza della Repubblica, you can enjoy a delicious cappuccino or espresso a fuori (outside) overlooking the carousel. In this instance, you get what you pay for-delicious coffee, historic atmosphere, and fantastic people watching.

The interior of Gilli is as beautiful as the exterior!

5. Gelateria Leonardo €

One of Florence’s lesser known cafes, (even its name suggests that it is primarily a gelateria) Gelateria Leonardo is my favorite not for the taste of its coffee, but for its tucked-away garden oasis. Located past the train station, its the best spot to get away from the busy and tourist filled streets of Florence and relax in a hidden outdoor setting. I’ve never seen more than 2 or 3 people here, and I can even hear birds chirping while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. When you need a break, look no further than Gelateria Leonardo.

A peaceful place in a busy city.

6. Astor Cafe €

For those who are truly addicted to coffee, Astor Cafe can be found right next to the Duomo, and is sure to become your new favorite spot. A monthly coffee card only costs 30 Euro, and gets you up to four, yes FOUR, coffees a day. Additionally, Astor Cafe is the only place to get a Pumpkin Spice Latte in Florence, so if you are missing Starbucks and looking for a taste of fall, head on over.
